Video Cards – MCI Makes Crap?
I just had my 1 1/2 year old MCI NVIDIA 470GTX video card replaced after it started to fail and then completely failed two weeks ago. The replacement card they sent worked for 2 days and then completely failed on boot today. Several re-boots and still no video signal. Does MCI make crappy video cards? If I have to buy a new card, who do you recommend and which card?

I would go with PNY. They make the high end Quadro cards and I assume they do a good job with the consumer cards as well. I’ve been very happy with my PNY Quadro 4000.

I’m not sure where you got that impression but it has 3 outputs, 2 of which are available at any one time. I have two ASUS ProArt PA246Q (1920×1200 Widescreen) monitors connected to it via the 2 display port outputs.

OK, I see it comes with a DVI to VGA adapter. That will support my current 2 VGA computer monitors. My plan is to replace one of the VGA monitors, which is use as my Vegas playback monitor, with an HD studio monitor. using the Q4000 card, will I get true real-time Vegas playback from the timeline? Or do I need something like a BlackMagic I/O for that? Plus the BM card will give me all my analog I/Os as well. What do you suggest?

Vegas Pro 11.0 will take advantage of the Quadro 4000 to provide smoother playback from the timeline. Whether it is real-time or not depends on a lot of things, including how powerful your CPU is, what format the source video is, and what FX you have applied. I don’t believe the BlackMagic I/O card will affect real-time playback at all but I’ve never used one.
