Vegas Pro 11 speed
Posted by William Mims on February 14, 2012 at 4:30 pmWisely, I did not delete Vegas 9 when I upgraded to 11, because I find that 11 has a number of ‘issues’. One being in preview a dissolve is jerky like there is not enough ram to play it smoothly. The same edit in 9 plays in real time correctly. I have 12 GB of RAM so I know it is not that.
Any suggestions for settings that need to be changed in 11 so that I can work on my timeline without the annoyance of jumping scenes?Mims

Thank you for your quick reply, however I do not know what GPU stands for. I went into preferences and found nothing that looked like “GPU”. Hey, I’m 65, this computer stuff is not my generation. I used to splice film with a Movieola!
Thanks for your patience.Mims

February 14, 2012 at 5:29 pmGPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit. It is in the video tab in the preferences window. You will see a dropdown box where you can click it off

February 14, 2012 at 6:27 pmYou are 65 and you used to splice film with
a movieola…Nothing is wrong with that, dont tell
yourself it isnt your generation, of course it is…(smile). You are still young and you are using what the pros
currently use, are’nt you?Happy editing.

Thanks. I found the GPU, and it was already turned off so that is not what is slowing (or Jerking)the video preview.
Steve, thanks for your encouragement.
Yes, and I do love Sony Vegas. No more splicer razor cuts!Mims

February 14, 2012 at 8:27 pmIm at a loss as to why all is well in Vegas 9
and not in Vegas 11.
Uninstall Vegas..Restart the PC..and then Re-install it.
Then see if it performs better. If not, something else is wrong.Steve Rhoden

February 17, 2012 at 9:12 pmSounds like possible HDD thrashing. Did you try turning down the preview window’s quality while editing?
Even with an i7, ssd and 16GB ram I have to do this. Sometimes “Preview (Full)” looks smoothest, other times when a lot is going on with color correction, titles and transitions an even lower setting like “Draft (Auto)” is needed during an edit to see what’s going on with my HD footage.
Don’t forget to crank it back up to “Best (Full)” before rendering.
