Wavy lines on Vegas Movie studio HD
Hi,
Using a Panasonic HMC 40 camera I filmed two interviews on the same day with the same lighting but two different subjects. The raw footage for both interviews looks great in the camera, but, when I import it into Vegas Movie Studio HD I’m getting wavy lines on one of the segments – the other is fine.
I have checked and re-checked that I have the correct settings. I’ve tried rendering in Best and Good quality, with progressive scan vs. upperfield first, as well as different settings for deinterlacing – no significant improvement. The one “improvement” I’ve seen is when I add the gaussian blur set to horizontal 0000 and vertical 0001, but it really effects the overall quality.
Would appreciate any assistance or advice.Thanks,

“Wavy Lines” is quite a broad description. Can you upload a screen shot?

Thanks for your response. Sorry I did not describe the problem better, here’s a picture.
The gentlemen was wearing a dark shirt with a white pattern on it. The lines are coming from the shirt (I think) maybe it is the way the light hits the shirt?

Those wavy lines in the shirt are Moire effect. It is almost impossible to avoid them which is why you never see a patterned shirt or jacket in pro videos. What’s happening is that the horizontal scan lines in the camera are breaking up the pattern on the shirt, and the encoder in the camera is trying to predict what is in the next group of pixels based on prior pixels.

Thanks. Experimenting with different ways to minimize the Moire effect. Appreciate your help and welcome any suggestions to improve the video.

Add the Gaussian Blur FX.
Set Horizontal to 0.0 and Vertical to 0.001 (max of 0.003).
