    My friend the search button and I have been working on solving this problem but for this particular project, no “ideal” solution is apparent (not that there ever is for any project).

    There are multiple complications. Two which are inherent in this project are a rotating 3D model and a gradient background. Too much compression causes the gradient background to “band” and the model to leave noticeable artifacts in it’s wake as it rotates. I’ve tried a number of renders to MP4 trying to find the right combination of small file size and good (not the best, I’m realistic) quality. Using the progressive option when the file is large enough to look good, playback constantly catches up with download cause the former to freeze. Yes, it restarts but I don’t think I’m being picky when I find this unacceptable.

    I’ve found out the person I need to see this is using Internet Explorer so I tried embedding a .wmv playback but with some versions of IE a separate instance of Windows Media Player is launched (v9) in earlier versions (v7) the page will not load until the file is downloaded and then it won’t play, the window shows, but no playback.

    So, I figured I’d try Flash but the best converter is not apparent. I tried to download one recommended elsewhere on this board and my anti-virus monitoring went crazy.

    I’ve also thought about seeing what can be done on the other end by checking out Autodesk Inventor render options as the designer who created these animations while not new to Inventor is new to animating 3D models. Maybe I can get output that is best suited to my purposes for future projects.

    But the immediate need is embedding code that will work for most versions of IE and a good (output from Vegas) to .flv converter. I would just have to have a landing page where one could choose an option best suited to their browser. Of course I’d have a version for Apple users.

    I’m finding that there is still much work to be done after the project progressed to the render stage namely doing what’s necessary to make the vid visible to the majority of users. All users would be too much to ask I guess.

    Here’s the code I’m using for the .wmv file;

    object type="video/x-ms-wmv"
    data="skidwin.wmv"
    width="800" height="600">
    param name="src" value="skidwin.wmv"
    param name="autostart" value="true"
    param name="controller" value="true"

    Any insights will be appreciated.

    The Flash solution appears to be render a .mov file in Vegas and then convert using Quicktime Pro.
