whenever i render a video, be it shot with a camcorder or from a movie, the video always goes from crisp to this weird soft look, and im always rendering it in either wmv or mp4, both giving me the same results, but when rendering it in .avi, its not so soft but it isnt as crisp but the file size is stupidly huge (1 min. = 4gb), does anyone have a fix for this?

What are your source files? What resolution, bitrate? How do you capture movies and what type and res are those? we need more info on what your starting out with.

some are uncompressed .avi that ive gotten from fraps, others are .mkv files, some are files ive had to convert in windows movie maker into high quality .wmv files, resolution is usually 640×480 or 1280×720, bit rate will range from 5-16

I can make great quality mp4 and wmv files with Vegas. Are you deinterlacing with a blend fields setting? that can make your video look softer. There’s some free utilities like Gspot, that tells you most everything about a video media clip.
