For that last hour I have been reading post on here shaking my head. After Effects is a professional level program design for motion graphics and visual effects. As such it takes a commitment to learn weather that be books and/or video tutorials. It also helps to use the help docs and your favorite search engine. Oh and then you need to bone up on things like graphic design, basic video engineering and the list goes on.

Is the reason for this because most on here now are hobbyist? If so that’s great, but why did you buy a professional application After Effects or did you?

If there were an “AE lite”, or if Motion were available alone, or on Windows, things would be different. But, no.

Actually, Adobe offered something like an AE lite, but it died a quick death. So quick, I can’t remember what it was called. And I remember ICE boards, Fractal Expression and Photoshop before it had layers.

It would be nice to have this forum moderated so obviously basic questions get moved to the “Basics” AE forum. It does seem that the majority of questions nowadays on this forum are from people that haven’t taken the time to learn the basics.

Yes. As was hinted in his original post, a lot of these questions are probably from people who illegally downloaded the software because they heard you could use it to make things go BOOM or because they’re doing some video thing for their uncle’s used car lot.
However, some of the questions are legitimately someone in the industry with a problem, some are from students who are looking to get into the industry, and others are from folks who are reeaaally into their hobby.
    I try not to judge.
If somebody makes it obvious that they’re using cracked software, I ignore them.
If somebody asks a really stupid question, I kindly remind them to RTFM and that there is a basics forum.
I do all of this happily knowing that if I ever have a question, the great minds of the COW are still here for me too.

I agree completely. We are more than capable of taking care of it ourselves.
Perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have an After Effects Elite forum so that those of us who really know our stuff could be all snobby together, er, I mean, could talk through really seriously interesting things.
