  Noise removal in Sont Vegas 11

  I have ambient airconditioner noise on an interview I recently shot. I accessed the Open in Audio Editor feature and used the noise removal feature in Audacity, my editor of choice. This worked fine, but when I drag the new track to the timeline the audio seems not to be any different than the original. Also if I export the audio file as an MP3, the Import Media File dialogue box does not recognise this new .mp3 file. Any insights into either of these issues?
