Stablization in Sony Vegas 11
Posted by Brad Miller on November 21, 2011 at 11:45 pmI posted this before, but nobody really addressed the issue…
I upgraded from Vegas 10 to Vegas 11 and the stabilization in Vegas 11 takes an excruciating longer amount of time than it did in Vegas 10. Right now I’m trying to stabilize a 30 second clip. It’s taking 25 minutes. The same clip only took 1 minute with Vegas 10. Anyone else have this problem?

November 22, 2011 at 3:52 amI don’t bother with the built in Vegas stabilizer Brad…I simply
use Prodad Mercalli plugin (its perfect in every way).Steve Rhoden

November 22, 2011 at 4:00 amI thought Sony licensed the Prodad Mercalli plugin for Vegas 10-11?

November 22, 2011 at 4:14 amYep that’s true…But the built in stabilizer is
what you might call a limited edition. The direct Mercalli
plugin is a whole different beast, with lots more flexibility
and options along with better output and performance.Steve Rhoden

November 22, 2011 at 12:22 pmI have not had such issues. My only observation was that a stabilisation added in SVP10 does strange things when the same project is opened in SVP 11.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

November 22, 2011 at 2:13 pmI’ve found one issue… In Vegas 10, stablize is applied to just the selected clip, not the entire video file, while in Vegas 11 it is applied to the entire file, so you need to create a subclip if you just want to apply stabilization to that section of the video…
However, Vegas 11 is still is slower than Vegas 10.

November 22, 2011 at 9:00 pmI usually split the event to what I need stabilised beforehand, but the effect is applied quickly. I do this before adding any other FX, otherwise the stabilisation takes longer.

September 9, 2012 at 6:31 pmSony Vegas 11’s stabilization is horrible compared to Vegas 10, so bad I don’t even bother using it anymore. It’s s shame I had to spend $250 to purchase the Prodad Mercalli plugin because a selling feature of Vegas 11 does not work.
