Vegas 11 won’t open Vegas 8 files (both 32 bit versions)
I am still stuck on Vegas 8. I bouhgt Vegas 9 when it came out and found it to be very buggy, gave up on it.
Then Vegas 10 trial wouldn’t open any of my Vegas 8 files (kept crashing)
Now Vegas 11 won’t open my Vegas 8 projects either.
I have no problem paying to upgrade to Vegas 11, but this issue needs to be sorted, or is there a work around?
I’v already paid for Vegas 9, which I don’t use. I don’t ant to throw good money after bad…

Vegas 9.0e is not buggy…Download the 9.0e update

I’m able to open my Vegas Pro 8 project files with both 32bit and 64bit versions of Vegas Pro 11. It could be something in your project file. Other people on this forum have mentioned a helpful tip. Try running Vegas 8 and Vegas 11 at the same time. Now select the whole timeline in your Vegas 8 project and choose Copy from the Edit menu. Now switch to Vegas 11 and choose Paste from the Edit menu. You can now save your project under a new name as a Vegas 11 project.

I too just recently upgraded from 8.0c to 11…both 32 and 64 bit running on my PC. So far I have not had any problems opening version 8.0 files EXCEPT for audio projects. I use the 64 bit version for video work but I have to use the 32 bit version for audio work because all of my 3rd party audio plugins are 32 bit. The 64 bit version will open the project fine….but a warning message pops up and states that the plugins did not load. If I open an audio project in the 32 bit version everything works great…other than the audio bus solo problem I posted about earlier.

Vegas 9 is not buggy? Why then are all the local videographers to me stuck with Vegas 8? I have even paid for the upgrade to 9 but switched back to version 8.
Try the following the let me know what happens…
1) Right click on an audio event.
2) Change the channel to channel 2
3) Apply a non-real time audio effect to the effect, the Volume one for example, it happens for them all.
4) Play your audio now and enjoy the distorted stuttering audio!And don’t come back and say to use an audio envelope, this issue is for many other effects also. Just checked it in Vegas 11 and seems to have been fixed. It wasn’t fixed in Vegas 10. Two whole versions to fix an issue that was introduced in Vegas 8.

Thanks for the response Mark but copying and pasting isn’t much use to me. I sometimes use track effected and I also use volume envelopes. These do not get copied.
If Microsoft told you that when you upgrad to a new version of MS Word, you had to copy and past from the old version into the new version, would you be happy?
Backward compatibility it the first thing we should all be looking for, how can they expect us to upgrade with them if they won’t support our old projects?

The audio stutter is a known issue and a possible solution is to go into Preferences > Audio
Uncheck track buffer.
I am at work, but I only recall two audio tabs, so it is under one of them.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6
