None of the files dropped on Vegas Pro could be opened
Basically, I made a DVD file (MPG) a couple years ago and I’m just wanting to import it (or better yet – drag it) into Version 10 (now 11) and it still doesn’t. I never bothered to figure it out before but now I want to take the time. Is it a codec issue? I don’t know what more I could install as I have installed the K-Lite Full codec pack as well as ffdshow (which actually is in the K Lite I believe.)
I have Win7 64bit running Vegas Pro 11 (64bit)

Use the “File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc” option.
It was originally designed for miniDVDs but works equally well for a (non copy protected) full-size DVD.

Big mistake. Do a search on this forum for the posts (and there are a lot of them) giving reasons why you never install any codec package.
Uninstall it and hope that Vegas still works normally afterwards. -
Thanks for the advice. I had in fact found a former forum suggestion to “import DVD” route as you had suggested and it didn’t work. 🙁 Good advice on the codec installs and with all my forum quests I had not seen any posts advising NOT to install other codec packages. But it makes sense – as I had wondered why SONY would not have included any codecs the app needed. I will uninstall them all and reinstall Vegas. Maybe that will help. THX! m

Try it again and let me know what problems you run into.

Because there are thousands of Codecs available. Many have so small a user base that it makes no sense to burden all the Vegas customers with the licensing of those codecs. A few have such onerous licensing terms that few NLE’s will ever support them.

Hi there, in my case i think it was that Vegas Pro 11 can’t open .mp4 files largest than 100mb… my file was 107mb soo i splited it to two files and then tried again and it worked … after that just created the clip with that two files and abit of editing
