Hi. I’m a Sony Vegas beginner. But I have a goal: I’ve recorded myself singing a song, using three tracks, making harmony with myself — that is, 3 voices, all me. What I’d love to do is make three videos of myself singing, one video per part, and line them up vertically, so you can see three of me singing the three parts simultaneously.

Is this something that would be just horribly difficult to achieve? I’ve looked on the web to see if I can use the very very simple Windows Movie Maker to do this, and it seems fairly easy to do a two-way vertical split, using a transition add-on, but I can’t find a way to do a three-way split using WMM.

So I turn to Vegas. Is this a highly complicated procedure? Thanks.

One way you could do this is to set up 3 separate video tracks and then use Pan and crop to reduce the size and position of the video event for each track. Be careful not to accidentally keyframe, otherwise your video may start to wander slowly.

You can also achieve the same outcome using track motion.

I have a tutorial on my web site that shows you how to do this for two videos:

Creating a Split Screen using a Mask

It shouldn’t be too hard for you to figure out how to add a third. Feel free to ask questions once you’ve looked it over.
