I have both After Effects 6.5 and 7.0 on my computer, both have been working fine for a long time. I recently ran a MAC update (one of them being an upgrade to Quicktime 7.6) and now audio does not work on the timeline of After Effects.
I can import an audio file (.mov, .mp3, etc) and it previews fine in the project window, but once I drag it to the timeline I get no sound. In fact, when I pull down to the Waveform, there are no waves. (hitting “.” runs the sound preview but no sound is heard)

Is this happening to anyone else? Is it a quicktime problem or just a coincidence. Preferences? I will try reinstalling QT, but my co-worker has the same version and the files work fine on his machine.

    Thanks.

I trashed my preferences and still get no audio on the timeline.
I took a screencap so you can see that in the program menu the audio works fine, but once dropped to the timeline, I get nothing.

Again, my coworker has the same programs and things are working fine. I even uninstalled Quicktime and that does not seem to be the problem.

One work around I have found.

    1. I rendered from FCP with my current settings in my case HDV1080i50 (adjust to whatever setting you are using)

    – Did not have audio on time line.

    2. Open clip in QT and then rendered using HDV1080i50. (adjust to whatever setting you are using)

    – Audio works fine in AE

No idea what is causing this, hope this workaround helps some people before the real solution is found.

    Ben.
