  Multiplying a clip without using layer compositing mode?

  So forgive me, I’ve not been doing much video work for some time. I’m fairly sure I’m missing something obvious, but can’t figure it out, and need your help.

  Here’s the issue: I have a clip that I want to multiply with the layers below. However, I want to fade it in, and only toward the end of a segment. However, if I set it’s layer to “Multiply (mask)” then nothing below that layer shows up, when there’s nothing in that layer to multiply, and everything is very dark as it starts to fade in.

  I simply want the clip to fade in and be multiplied throughout, without otherwise affecting the layers beneath. How do I go about doing this?

  You could use white generated media across the mask track to provide a mask that will always show the video or you can do your masking in a nested project.

  I tried the white generated media. That works, except for the fade. It still darkens somewhat in the middle of the fade. The fade is the trick, even in a nested project, I’m not sure it would work.
