I normally shoot in 1920×1080 30 P (Sony EX1).mp4. When I use many effects I make cineform AVI’s to be able to handle all effects efficiently in editing.
I have found if I go down to 720P Vegas is way more efficient in multitrack editing with effects.

1)Question: Is it better to shoot in 1902×1080 and “cineform it” Down to 720P or, since I am going to 720P should I shoot in 720P? Do i loose quality compressing it vs shooting in 720P?

    2) Is there a way in the “Sony EX clip browser” to export a 720P .mfx from a 1080.mp4?

MFX seems to edit good for me but I cant get the 1080 to 720p in clip browser.

Where is the footage going? For DVD, or especially Youtube, I would think you wouldn’t notice much difference. Youtube compresses things so much, and DVD plays things in 720×480. On Vimeo or Blu Ray I would think you might notice a difference, but as long as the bit rate’s high I’m sure it would look pretty close to what you originally got. I’m not very knowledgeable on how much of a difference compressing vs. shooting in a lower resolution makes, but I’m going by my general experience with the same issues and since I shoot in 1920×1080 but always have to compress for Youtube or DVD.
