  The best conversion on Mac to be post edited in Vegas 10?

  Hello veryone!
  I have MOV files made on Mac (1480×1080, 25fps). Vegas 10 doesn’t understand this files at all. 🙁 I need some post-production in Vegas, so want to convert them into most Vegas-friendly format, but without lost quality and resolution. Could you suggest the best way to get AVI 1480×1080 from this?

  What version of QuickTime do you have installed on your computer?

  Vegas 10 understands Quicktime just dandy. But like most mulitmedia frameworks, a .mov file is just a wrapper… it can contain all kinds of different video and audio formats. Vegas knows onky the formats distributed by Apple that come with standard Windows Quicktime. You have a larger set available in the standard MacOS set. You can get a larger set of these in Quicktime Pro for Windows, but unless you know the actual format you’re using, there’s no way to be sure you have that support in Vegas.

  The best format I have found for interchange at pro quality in Avid’s DNxHD. This is a free download from Avid; it’s high enough quality to support 4:2:2 color and work as an intermediate file format, like Cineform or Apple’s ProRes. Install this on both systems, interchange will become easy.

  Thank you Dave! I solved it by using Quicktime Lossless with Animation preset. Took lots of space, but it works in Vegas.
  But now i’m a bit confused how to render HD file in Vegas. Before always worked with AVI DV template for 720×576.
  Now my project settigs is: 1440×1080, 25fps, Ratio 1,333, progressive.
  What is the best render settings? I’m on Vegas 10 32-bit. I want to get final file AVI 1440×1080, not very compressed, but not too big.
  Project length is 5:36. How can i render for the best quality/size, which codec will be the best?

  What is your final delivery format? You say you want AVI but I don’t know of any reason to deliver HDV as an AVI when MPEG2 is the native format. What will you do with the AVI file?

  Personally, I would render back to the native HDV MPEG2 format.
