Rode Video Mic Pro advice
I’m new to the audio/visual world and need some advice on how best to use a Rode Video Mic Pro on outdoor interviews. My office is trying to build up an awesome video page on our website and we just bought this mic and a Canon Rebel T3i.
I’ve done some testing, using the mic at -10 dB at about 5 feet away. While it got rid of the outside noise (people talking in the background, etc.) it was hard to hear the person talking.
Is there a way to fix it easily? Or will I need to use software? If so, what software would be best?

You have to get the microphone closer to the desired audio source.

I deal with this a lot, and in an interview setting I recommend a $25 Audio Technica lavalier microphone. They have pretty long cables. Buy a few of them and get extra batteries. I don’t know how long those tiny batteries last on them, but you can find packs of them cheap.

Alternately, put the Rode Video mic on a boom and get it with 2-3 feet of the talent but out of the frame. The last place you want to put the mic is on the camera. That’s too far away. If you can’t get a boom close, get a lav mic like Angelo suggests. That’s why they make different types of microphones.

It all depends on your budget.

Cut off the attenuators both sides of mike, have had no problems at 20 feet, used for 3 years, surf , water lapping at 50 feet, great, if windy use fur.Jazz band at 30 feet just right. even band leader talking at same distance in room, fine..
