I understand that Mocha Shape will export shape data to After Effects CS3 and later, but since I’m stuck with AE7, can I use Mocha Shape as a stand-alone product and create a rendered image for import into AE7? I’ve asked this of Imagineer, but have not heard back from them. How does Shape’s roto tool compare with Digital Film Tools’s Power Matte? Thanks in advance for any information.

    Hi
I use shape and as far as Im aware it will only work with CS3 and CS4 and only in combination with Mocha AE. If you can you should consider upgrading to CS4 as Mocha AE ( which comes free) is a fantastic planar tracker once you get your head around how to use it.

    Regards

Simon’s bascially right, Mocha Shape will currently only work with Mocha for After Effects V2. The bundled CS4/MochaAE V1 will not allow you to export shape data.

The full version of Mocha will allow you to export out rendered mattes to use as track mattes in After Effects. But I think it would work out cheaper/easier to upgrade AE and get Mocha for AE V2 & Mocha Shape.

As you can see from my signature, I am a huge fan of Mocha. The combo of planar tracker, stabilizing and mask shape exports makes roto so much easier on many types of project. I’ve never used DFT Power Matte so couldn’t offer an opinion on how they compare.

    Cheers,
    Ben
