Okay so I’ve just about finished editing a feature on Sony Vegas.

I Still have the problem of how to color grade but that’s another story. I believe a lot of theatres now play straight from hard drives, I shot it on a 7d in 1080P. What are the normal render settings for film delivery?

First with the color space, Is the 32 bit floating point full range the way to go? I like to edit in 8bit as it’s less intensive on CPU and switch to 32 bit later. I imagine it would be, but when switching to it, all my colors fade. Even between 32 video to 32 full range. Does this mean that I should color grade in this full range mode as it seems to have less banding artifacts?

And then would MPEG-2 1920×1080 at 23.976 frame rate in maximum quality be the way to go?

The other question, if I was to color grade in After FX, (probably invest in colorista II) what are the best render settings for totally loss-less from one application to another. I usually do this with PNG frames, but 100 minutes of frames is a bit much.

Any help would be great, thanks!

If you are going direct to the theater, then ask them. They may have everything from a home DVD player to the Sony SRXR320P 4K projector on a fiber network to the studios. If you are going through a distributor, then the distributor will dictate the format.
