Hello. I am trying to assist a good friend in upgrading his Studio MAC which is running MEDIA 100 ( Old Version still as the MAC OS is 10.2 ) In his MAC he has a MEDIA 100 Video capture card which can also output to a TV VIA S-SVIDEO. The MEDIA 100 does render very fast and therefore on the TV output it is a very smooth rendered video which shows while you are editing so it is useful to see the result immediately. However, to upgrade the MAC to a more modern version and new Media100 software, etc is quite expensive and not sure if cost effective and he was wondering what PC build would offer the same type of TV monitoring experience if using Sony Vegas which he has seen on my works PC which is only running a Core Duo, etc. and likewise the Preview monitoring is not so good

I do have an ATI HD card which has S-VIDEO OUT but the TV monitoring experience of a NON rendered video is not good. I know some of you guys have much experience with Intel PC builds for Business use so can I ask you to try and recommend an INTEL build which I guess will be i7 and what Graphics card and also a any special TV out card that will offer the same as the Media100 capture card. So ideally, a DUAL monitor Graphics card with Separate TV out card (not found one of these yet)

    Thanks in advance John

I own a Mac Pro dual quad core. I run Vegas on it using Boot Camp with Win7 Pro 64 bit. This is not a slight against Windows users but why would a Mac user want to return to Windows?

I just bought my wife a Toshiba All-in-One Windows computer. It’s excellent and state of the art but networking and other aspects of the OS drive me a bit crazy compared to a Mac.

Hello Greg. It is not that he does not like MAC, but it is trying to maintain the same VIDEO Preview experience he is getting with the Media100 card. As he is semi retired from his Video Studio business, then any investment to update his old MAC system is now just for the old few requests he gets to produce videos and a new quad core Tower MAC will also need a new Graphics capture card to maintain the same Instant preview that Media100 provides and it almost renders in real time and the latest Media100 software which is almost twice the cost of VEGAS,,

I only have a Core Duo Intel system which is fine for the small amount of work I get and to Pre-render stuff to get an idea of the final quality is not to much of a pain but when you have been used to almost Instant Preview quality, the questing is,,,,,,, How does an Ii7 with suitable ram and 64bit OS perform in the preview mode if it is not pre rendered. If only I new someone local who had such a system that a quick eyeball would tell me straight away. As I say .. he likes his MAC but not the considerable cost investment for what is more of a hobby than his business. Many thanks for your reply.. Regards John

I wish I knew about Media 100 but I don’t. You’re right a new Mac Pro is very expensive. Maybe others here can help.
