  • How to do a mission brief text effect

Posted by Joey Kelly on July 23, 2011 at 4:17 am

    Hello fellow video editors 🙂

I’m making a small home movie about a spy, and at the beginning, I want to have a text briefing for the mission blip across the screen. I’ve seen it in movies and video games, but I’d like to know how to do it in Sony Vegas PRO 10.

I hope I’m explaining this clearly enough for everyone.

    Thanks for any help!

What does “blip across the screen” mean? Do you have a video example you can point to? If you mean have it look like it’s typing, the ProType Titler has several methods for revealing text including a character at a time and a line at a time. It sounds like you might want to start there.

I mean like in spy movies, where at the beginning to shows green computer text go across the screen saying something like:

    Time: 3:43 pm
    Place: State Capitol
    Mission: Retrieval

    Etc. etc.

I’ll check out the ProType title and come back to tell youif it worked.

    Thanks!

That’s PERFECT! Except I don’t have Swishmax 🙁 and it costs money.

That’s exactly what I want, but is it possible to do it free?

    Thanks!

You can use the ProType Titler to animate the typing of the text by animating the Selection parameter. This will give you type-on text. See the image below for the settings:

You won’t get the blinking cursor like SwishMax has but it is a free solution. 😉
