I’ve just recently upgraded to Vegas 10 to be able to edit in HD, I’m finding my computer is unable to handle outputting the Preview Screen very well, though it should be able to handle it, it’s a Intel 3.20 GHz with 2 gigs of RAM. Is that not enough, to be able to view this stuff properly? My current project is a music video and it’s crucial to be able to sync up all the various takes, which is very difficult to do when you have what seems to be stuttering video, or jumping between frames. What would be the ideal setting to select in my Preview Screen for a computer like mine? Thanks in advance for any and all advice offered.

Use Dynamic Ram Preview to preview your work as you edit, to
get things in sync……Having effects, filters and several
timelines running in a project will not give you realtime
playback in your Preview window and especially when you are
editing high definition on a basic system that you have there now.

Thanks Steve, I’ll give that a try. Would I look for that in “Preferences”? Also what are some of the specs. I should be looking for in a new computer, if I want Full HD footage to play as smoothly as possible in the Preview Screen? And does Windows 7 have any advantages over XP Pro SP3, as far as Vegas is concerned? What about 64-bit over 32-bit? I want to get “THE” best box I can, for working with Vegas. Thanks for your advice.

I’m having the same issue… Except I have 4GB of ram and apparently that’s not even enough. 64 bit Win7. I can’t even get my audio to come up with it and it’s still slow.. Frustrating. :-/

Unfortunately, this is an ongoing issue. I regularly edit with 4 tracks using Ultimate S and the preview can get laggy in multi-cam mode, even on my grunty i7 system (see specs below). The best I can get away with is Preview Auto with HDV only on the timeline, and Draft Auto if I include a track or two of AVCHD.

You might want to consider using Gearshift.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6
