Vegas Pro 9.0 Pro is notorious for having the “import freeze” issue. You can either update it or go about the method seen in this video:

but that is not my problem. when i drag a .avi video into the timeline it simply does not work. a “forbidden” icon appears and i can do nothing with it …

and i tried this with pro 8 , pro 9 , pro 10 and movie studio premium 😐

Did you render the video or did someone else?
If it was someone else, what does MediaInfo (a free download) say about the codec used?

i rendered the video from a game . i used h264 codec to do it .

Try Streamclip (free) and convert it to something Vegas will see.

I don’t have Streamclip in front of me now but I’m sure there’s a lossless format to render to that’ll work in vegas.
