  • When Upgrading… Do Presets Save?

Posted by Dylan Edwards on June 23, 2011 at 1:31 am

Let’s say I want to upgrade from 9 to 10, will my video effects that I created save… I would really hate to have to do them all over again.

When you say video effects, do you mean presets or Vegas project files?
If its your project files, they still will be compatible with the
new version of Vegas….if its presets on the other hand, they wont be saved that way.

I believe if you keep Vegas Pro 9 installed and just add Vegas Pro 10, all of your presets will be saved. If you uninstall Vegas Pro 9 that deletes your presets and then Vegas Pro 10 won’t have them.

    John,

Along the same line, I have some Veg 9 projects not completed that I started to work on in Veg 10. I find that the Boris FX & Grafitti plug-ins are not “installed” in V10, so are not available. I thought you just had to “point” to the location of the plugins in the Preferences|VST Plugins tab and they would be visible, but I’m not having any luck. Can you give me some pointers on how to make these plugins visible to both V9 (which they currently are) AND V10.

    Thanks

[Andrew Lenczycki] “I thought you just had to “point” to the location of the plugins in the Preferences|VST Plugins tab and they would be visible,”

VST plug-ins are audio plug-ins conforming to the Virtual Studio Technology interface. They have nothing to do with video.

Officially, you should download the latest installers for those plug-ins and re-install them if they support Vegas Pro 10. If you want to copy the plug-in DLL’s over manually (which is not supported so you are on your own here) they can be found under:

Hm, I don’t want to install Vegas 10 then have all my files converted to V10 files and not be able to use them on V9.

May have to buy an external drive or something…

All you need to do is make a copy of the project file (.veg) to edit in Vegas Pro 10. There is no need for another drive. The only thing that is Vegas Pro 10 specific is the project file.

I thought a message comes up telling you it will convert all your .veg files to V10

No. When you go to save, it will warn you that you are about to save that one single veg file in a new format that is not backward compatible. It does not affect any other veg files. It doesn’t even know where your other veg files are. All you need to do is keep a copy of your project in Vegas 9 format before you start saving it in Vegas 10 format. I like to add “_(VP9).veg” to the filename when I make the copy.
