In my first attempt ever to actually burn a standard def DVD from the vegas timeline I run into a problem.

No matter what region duration I select from the Vegas timeline, I get 8.35 GB estimated size and when I try to burn I get an error… “The DVD image is too large to fit on the disk, try changing your render settings or use a larger capacity disk”

First, there are no “render settings” other than video format. Audio render settings are fixed. And no box to check to instruct it to “Render Loop Region Only” I assume it is trying to render the entire timeline, approx 3 hrs., at 8 mbs. Thus giving me the 8.35 GB size.

Blu Ray burning form the timeline has always worked for me and there are render settings in the Blu Ray disk burn window.

So, what am I doing wrong? Any workaround?

    Larry,
I opened an HD project, 80 mins in length.
Tools | Burn DVD | DVD.

It properly shows a DVD 5 length and burns correctly.

so, I deleted some portions, and while it shows the DVD size as still being a DVD 5, it does burn those portions.
Selection length doesn’t play a role. Do you have something far down on your timeline/>?

Ha Ha! Yes, I had a single short clip at about 2 hr down. I removed that and the size is now 2.2GB.

It’s still odd that it looks at the entire timeline, including blank segments, and ignores the region selected for actual burning.

I went ahead and selected a 2 min region and successfully burned a DVD of just that region.

    Mystery solved. Thanks!
