  • View frame when trimming on timeline

Dumb question perhaps, but I would love to see exactly where I am in my video preview window when I am trimming events on the timeline.

IE: When I grab the beginning or end of the event in the timeline and move them left or right, I’d like to be able to see exactly what frame I’m on when I do so in the preview window. I’m almost positive that I used to be able to do this, but perhaps I hit a magical ctrl+ key and switched this function off. Can’t for the life of me find where to switch it back on again!

…or am I having a senior moment (?!?) and there’s no such option for the timeline – only in the trimmer??

Please could someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks!
    Cheers,

    Bruce

It works for me. When I trim an event on the timeline, the video preview shows the current frame that I’m trimming. I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work for you.

OK John…now here’s something else I’m noticing (for the first time…I think): When I trim the event in the timeline, the thumbnails in the actual event move frame-by-frame. If I trim the beginning, the first thumbnail changes…if I trim the end, the last thumbnail alters.

I’m thinking I’ve switched something by mistake and can’t get it back to the original specs.

When you trim your events in the timeline do your thumbnails change as well?

    Thanks for your time.

    Cheers,
    Bruce

    Ah ha!!
In answer to my own question…for those who might have wondered, or may just make the same mistake, here is the answer:
When using the command crtl+shift+I to display or hide the event information on my timeline, I must have accidentally hit the ‘O’ instead of the ‘I’. This toggles the “Video event edge edit frames” function on and off.

This function can also be found in the “View” tab in the lower area.

I hope this saves someone the frustration it caused me.

By the way, there doesn’t appear to be any indication that I can see (other than the lack of said function) that this is on or off.
    What a pain!

    Cheers,
    Bruce

Wow, I didn’t even know that option existed. Good detective work!

    Hi, Bruce,

I found a way to display this function’s state on the toolbar. If you go to ‘Options|Customize Toolbar,’ you can locate & add the button identified as ‘Show Video Event Edge Frames During Edits’ & add it to the toolbar. The button will display differently depending on the enable-state of the function (button looks ‘pressed’ when function is enabled).
