Vegas 10 Licensing 32 and 64 bit
A friend and I would like to work on some editing projects together and are considering purchasing Sony Vegas Pro 10. The only problem may be – he has a Windows 7 64-bit OS and I am running Windows XP w/SP3 32-bit.
I understand the software would include both 32 and 64 bit versions, but does that entitle me (us) to use one of each? And even if it does, would we be able to transfer our projects from one computer to another?

I think the question relates to licencing. I think Steve Skipwith is suggesting sharing a licence i.e. one of them uses the 32-bit version of Vegas, whilst the other uses the 64-bit version of the same licence. Unfortunately, this sharing is not permitted as the user with the 64-bit OS could technically still install both.
In short, each editor needs to acquire a licence in their own right, THEN they can share veg files/projects as suggested.

As Nigel pointed out the answer is No. If you read the End User License Agreement, you will see that the software is licensed to you the individual. Your friend has no rights to the software. You would both need to purchase a license in order to for you both to use the software.

My question was two fold – licensing and the ability to share project files. I’m in the technology field and take the licensing issue seriously.

I agree with both John and Nigel, however, just to be sure, usually a license specifies how many computers you can install a program on. Many programs allow up to 2 computers. Truth be told, Vegas probably isn’t one of those programs, but it’s worth checking it out on their website just go be sure.

I was not addressing the licensing issue, just its integration

Actually, the way it is worded in the EULA, you can only use the software on one computer at a time:
“1. GRANT OF LICENSE. Sony hereby grants you a limited, non-exclusive license to use the Software on one (1) computer at a time upon the terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement. In the event your Software title is also equipped with a Software application-related network renderer (with which you can render projects on additional computer(s)) (each a “Renderer”), Sony hereby grants you a limited, non-exclusive license to use such Renderer(s) on up to two (2) additional computers at a time, solely in connection with the use of Software on a single computer and subject to the terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement. Sony reserves all rights in and to the Software and the Renderer(s) not otherwise granted in this Agreement.“
The intent it that you can install it on multiple computers as long as you only use them one at a time like a desktop and laptop. It makes no mention of allowing friends to use the software. 😉

I figured as much, but it was worth looking into. I actually meant for the O.P. to look into it, but thanks for clearing it up and getting back to us.

Can I run my Sony Creative Software application on more than one PC?Our licensing agreement permits you to install the software on as many machines as you own, as long as you are not running the programs at the same time. For instance, you can install the software on your home machine and on your laptop. You are not allowed to install the software on multiple machines if you are going to be using them simultaneously, such as in a home studio setting. If you are going to run the software concurrently on more than one machine, you would need to purchase a separate license for each computer.
