    Hey guys,

can anyone recommend a good location (here even) for downloading some AE template?. I want to be clear why I’m asking. I want to shore up my experience and understanding of the more complicated but sophisticated things that AE can do, and I find that if I study an existing project/timeline/assets/plugins, I learn and grasp things better that way. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR TEMPLATES TO MODIFY FOR ANY CLIENTS. I mention this last point because I am trying to LEARN, I therefore don’t want to be paying any money to download $100 templates just to get a better understanding.

Don’t get me wrong, I can pay a little either for a reasonable package or from a decent online tutorial site with downloadable templates, I’m just doing this for education. Pure and simple.

MY main interest is to see templates that use common plugins like Trapcode or Boris, make use of 3d objects or 3d cameras, and even a few that utilize expressions. Also, ones that involve several nested comps would help me understand good ideas for workflow.

Any help and recommendations would be great. Thanks, guys.

This brings a question, btw. For the more serious AE regulars who are willing to answer honestly, how often do you find yourself (if ever) simply buying and modifying templates for clients and is the reason simply a financial/time issue or do you ‘think’ that a lot of AE artists (not necessarily yourselves) use templates more often then people think because their own skillset is a bit more limited than they let on? I was just curious. Thanks!

As far as templates go at no cost, I agree that https://www.videocopilot.net is a great resource. For Andrew Kramer’s free tutorials, he provides the AE project file for download so you can analyze everything. His tutorials however usually focus on a single effect, so you won’t get to see how it might be integrated into a full project.

For my Pro Motion Menu Kit products, which include advanced motion menus created in after effects for Blu-ray and DVD, I incorporate a great deal of complex expressions and effects with the purpose of keeping the project very organized, lean, efficient in rendering, and most important, a streamlined way of customizing it for your needs. My project files aren’t free of course, as it also includes the Cover and Label templates, DVD authoring button templates, Sound FX tracks for the menu, and more. If you are not interested in purchasing the kit (which are all under $100), you are more than welcome to watch the entire product tutorial which will show you exactly how the projects are setup (and how many layers it takes to make the menus). They are available in the tutorial section of my site.

There are many project templates in the After Effects Exchange on the Adobe website.

Here’s a After Effects Community Help search for ‘template projects’ that might help you to find some other sources.

Dang! And no one’s mentioned broadcastGEMs? Sigh …

It’s all that you’ve asked for – Trapcode 3D Stroke & Particular and lots of AE’s built-in plugins. Lots of precomps and camera moves (Volume 02) and they’re a great learning resource.

The last time I tried to go to the Freebies section of that site (when I was compiling a list of free resources), I got a 404 error.
