QT for Mac with HD render
I need to provide a 1920×1080 HD Quicktime file for someone who will be playing it on a Mac. Can Vegas Pro 10 do this or do I need Quicktime Pro ($30).
I’ve tried the “5 Mbps Video 1920×1080” template and the image seems OK but the audio seems to be off by a beat. Is this just a QT on a PC issue?
If I need to get QT Pro, what HD format does it import, the Apple website is lacking in any info. Thanks.

You could create an AVC/H.264 MOV file with QuickTime Pro or you could render an AVC/H.264 MP4 file from Vegas which QuickTime can play. Use the Sony AVC codec with one of the “Internet…” templates.

I just played the Sony AVC .mp4 using VLC and Windows Media Player, both look great. When playing with the QT player on my PC and it stutters, the image looks grainier, and the audio is still off by a beat. Will a Mac play it correctly? I might try QT Pro, but I don’t know the best format it will ingest from Vegas, any idea?

That’s anyone’s guess. Apple has purposefully crippled QuickTime on the Windows platform so you really need to test it on a Mac.

I would download and use the Avid DNxHD codec. QuickTime has some nasty bugs that shift gamma on most codecs but the Avid DNxHD codec does not have this problem. It’s free on the Avid site.

Yea, I know when I give a Sony ACV file to a Mac person and they try to bring it into iTunes, it takes a long time to convert it. And the QT render from Vegas isn’t great, especially audio. Not fun, this PC-Mac issue. I see so many other posts about this here. OK, I’ll try the Avid codec. Thanks!
