Rendered XDCAM video with PCM stereo plays back great on the Vegas Pro 10 Timeline. However, most players do not play the audio during rendered file playback. When asked about the problem, the software companies who have received copies of the rendered file say the video format is not recognized by their software. I don’t understand how this can be since the audio and video are in the same MP4 container. PCM stereo is the only audio template available with Vegas XDCAM video rendering.

    Any help would be appriciated.

Did you really mean “video format” and not “audio format”? Because if it’s the video, that makes sense. Most media player won’t know what to do with XDCAM footage.

The video plays great. The audio does not play.

What are you using to play it back?

This is very odd since the audio is PCM there should be no problem playing it. Is the audio stereo or 4 channel?

My thoughts exactly. There should be no problem. The audio is stereo not four channel. Could the problem be that Sony renders the PCM like AC-3 with a studio codec?

No, PCM actually doesn’t use a codec. It’s uncompressed audio which means there should be no problem playing it. I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be playable.
