  Increased DVD Architect file size

  Hi everybody,
  this is my first time posting, but I have used Vegas for several years now, even when it was Video Factory (I Think?)
  I just recently started using Vegas 9, but am still using DVD architect 3. My problem is that I usually render to an MPEG-2 file in vegas and then import it into DVDA. I encode with the DVD NTSC Template or just the default template. It renders a VBR with 8,000,000 max/4,000,000 avg. so that the end file is about 3.5 GB for a 1 hr. 50 min. program. it is all SD. The thing is, when I import it into DVDA, it says that the disc space used is now 7.5 GB. I don’t understand what is going on.

  I am making the jump from Vegas 6 to Vegas 9, and I never had this kind of an issue before. I just can’t figure out what is making the file size double, and I don’t want to waste time letting the computer optimize the file to make it fit on the disc.

  I also apologize if this has been addressed before. I have been looking on line and haven’t really found a definitive answer.

  DVDA has a long history of incorrectly reporting file sizes.
  As long as you know your combined video and audio file sizes are under the limit, ignore the warning.
  When this happens to me, I ignore the warning, tell DVDA to proceed and it does with no more grief 🙂

  Assuming you’re using AC-3 audio, your settings are fine (avg. can be boosted to 5,000,000 for better quality).
  I use the bitrate calculator at https://www.johncline.com/bitcalc110.zip to determine my VBR settings and it’s never failed me.
  I made two changes to the default settings.
  The first was to set the Safety Margin to 5% from the default 1%.
  The second was to set 1 Kilobit = 1000 bits.

  I just burned a DVD of a 1:52 project. Pretty vanilla, SD, one audio track. DVDA tried to say that my project was 5.0Gb. The sum total size of the mpg and ac3 files (according to Windows Explorer) was 4.3Gb. It burned with no problems.
