  Unable to see thumbnails/frames on the timeline in Vegas Movie Studio 10

  I have a sony hv20 HDV camcorder and an HP Pavillion 2009 desktop with Windows 7 (use firewire to capture). I am unable to capture video with the sony vegas movie studio. “No preview available” appears on the blue screen while the rest of the capture buttons are in grey.

  I have captured from HDVsplit fine. However, once the videos are imported into the project media and then into the timeline, no frames/ thumbnails are visible. All I see is a white rectangle where the video is. The only way to see the video is to view it in the main preview window.

  I have contacted Sony and several forums and haven’t gotten any answers. I really need help with this. Thank you in advance.

  You may have accidentally turned off video thumbnails. See https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/925693 for the solution to that.

  I have never seen the frames/thumbnails since using the program–several months now. I know the program should allow it. I went to options-preferences-video-frames-all. No change — The white rectangle for the video is still there. I also downloaded Jmicron 1394 driver filter from HP, which did not help. I have read somewhere that codecs may be needed. Any ideas on this? I don’t know much about codecs, but really need to be able to see the video and audio on the timeline. Any other ideas I could really use the help.

  If you can play the video in the timeline and/or trimmer, then you already have the codec you need. I don’t know about the capture though.

  Do you see frames/thumbnails for other video formats? Do you see any audio waveforms?

  Also check to see if you’ve accidentally turned off the display of thumbnails/waveforms on the View menu: View>Waveforms and Frames.

  Matt, You rock! The View> Waveforms>Frames worked. This forum is so wonderful. I have inquired in other places and forums without an answer to this. I was hoping there was an easy button to press.
  Thanks so much for answering this so promptly. It had been a great source of frustration for me.
