Can’t render with a burn track
Posted by Seranya Myor on February 26, 2011 at 9:40 amSo I put a blue solid colour on a track set to ‘burn’ and on top of it added a normal track where I put a clip with the opacity set to about 90% but it didn’t render like it should have. While rendering, on the preview pane it would show the effect I wanted normally, but when it came out as a video it showed only a blue screen. Why could that be?

When you say “on top of that” did you mean, on the track above the burn track? Vegas allows you to place video on top of each other on the same track but you should never do this. What is below the “burn” track that you are compositing with?
To check what your video will look like when rendered, set the video preview quality to Good (Full) and RAM Preview a section of the video. This is the only way to really see what will be rendered. Preview modes are really just for reference and keeping frame rates high during playback.

February 26, 2011 at 1:45 pmYeah, sorry I should have said above. That’s what I meant. I had a ‘burn’ track and another track above it, set to the default ‘source alpha’. On the track above the ‘burn’ one was a clip and the colour was on the ‘burn’ track.
Under those tracks was just a song, nothing else. There were quite a few more tracks above, but there was nothing on them in this particular portion of the project.I never preview in good quality because the video won’t play normally this way so I can’t really see what I’m doing. I only set it on ‘preview’ when I want to see how the colouring will look like, but normally I preview in ‘draft’. But all other videos I’ve rendered before have come out the same way I’ve seen them on the preview pane, this has never happened to me before.

February 26, 2011 at 1:58 pmIf you make a small timeline selection and use Tools | Build Dynamic RAM preview (Shift+B) you can preview in full quality. I just built a project with 3 tracks, the middle track set to burn with a blue generated media and the top track set to 90% transparency and it rendered as expected. This is with Vegas Pro 10c. I don’t know why yours rendered a solid blue.

February 26, 2011 at 5:29 pmI did that RAM preview thing and it showed the clip playing correctly, not just a solid blue. But it still won’t render as it should.

February 26, 2011 at 6:25 pmPerhaps it only happens when rendering a particular format. Try rendering to a different format.

February 26, 2011 at 7:00 pmOh my God, yes that was it! Thank you so much! I rendered in wmv this time and it worked! I always kept the same settings for rendering because I found them on a tutorial and supposedly they were in the best format (mp4). I’m so relieved now, I won’t have to remake that whole passage, thank you so much! 🙂

February 26, 2011 at 7:22 pmYou’re welcome. If you want MP4 files you can use MainConcept AVC or Sony AVC. So whichever one you were using that didn’t work… try the other.
