Vegas won’t open
Posted by Remco Mooij on February 24, 2011 at 3:28 pmHello,
I bought Sony Vegas Pro 10, and I’ve worked a lot with it already. Now, I want to use it again, but when I double click the Vegas icon, it won’t start. I tried to uninstall it, reboot, and then reinstall it, but I still got the same problem. I also tried to uninstall it, and then reinstall it in version a, so without updates, but it still didn’t work. I searched on the internet how to resolve this problem, but I couldn’t really find an answer. So I hope someone can help me here!
Thanks!

February 24, 2011 at 4:58 pmWhat changed about your PC?
Do you have System Restore enabled? and can you restore to a previous point where Vegas worked?
Microsoft just released SP1 for Windows 7 but I haven’t heard any problems with it, but if you have automatic updates turned on, Microsoft could have updated something that doesn’t agree with Vegas or you could have installed some software that doesn’t agree with Vegas.

February 28, 2011 at 1:34 pmI tried to do system restore, but I deleted some restore points on my back-up harddisk, to make free space available. But it was bit stupid, because now I can’t restore my PC to a previous point. Maybe I should just format my computer, then it will surely work again. It only takes so much time! But if you know any other solution for this, please tell me.
Thanks for your reply!

March 8, 2011 at 3:49 pmThis has happened on two of our machines now. If you watch the task manager you can see the Vegas process start and them immediately stop. Sound forge still works fine. I even tried “completely” uninstalling all Sony products and all plugins, cleaning and deleting registry entries and reinstalling but to no avail. The only solution was to format and reinstall Windows 7. This happened once before SP1 and once after so I don’t think that’s the issue. I just hope it doesn’t happen on a day with a very important client.

March 17, 2011 at 7:25 pmYep I’ve been working with the same problem for nearly a week. Trouble is that I dont use Vegas every day so dont know when it actually packed up working. I double click my desktop icon and it appears for about 2s in the task manager and then nothing.
I installed updates for iTunes and Windows 7 including service pack 1. My suspicions are that Vegas perhaps does not like Microsoft.Net Framework 4 install since the spec for Vegas states that.NET v3 is required and is included on the install disc. So I went to the knowledge base at Sony creative and followed the Clean Uninstall and Reinstall instructions for Windows 7. After doing all the deletions and reg edits I reinstalled Sv and it still did not work.
However in the programs list I noticed that there were still no MS.NET items so I tried to install v3 of the same from the MS support site. It told me I had a more recent version still installed which is strange since I dont see it in the program list.
I have again restored my computer since programs like Nero could not work after the changes I made.
So does anybody have any ideas ? Am I barking up the wrong tree on this MS.NET v4 idea or just barking mad.
It did happen once before I remember but I thought then it was some I had done. The only way back then was a full clean install of Windows 7 and everthing that goes with it. Makes for a fast tidy machine but hey life’s too short and it reduces your edit time !
It will soon be sunny again…. I hope
