  vegas10 send audio to forge9 for edits returns to vegas as uncompressed video

  hi. small problem. using Vegas 10 64 bit(up todate) and forge9 32bit(up todate).
  when i send my audio/video track to forge for edits (eq compression etc) all is fine and i can edit BUT when finished, it returns into the time line as uncompressed video.
  that is, when i close the program (forge)it askes ‘do you wan to save the file’ click yes it then saves the file uncompressed and not as the original .avi file type.

  it wont keep the video properties as the original file. how ever if i ‘save as’ it will keep the file format. but the i need to reload that file into the time line if i want to use it.

  i have been on this problem for a week, originaly it was returning the file to the time line with this problem WITH the feilds flipped. i have fixed that problem, also with so much comperss and un compress it is affecting the quiality of the images.

  i never had this problem when i used Vegas9 to forge 9
  could it be a 64 verses 32 bit problem?

  other info – widnows 7, PAL 25fps, SD. nothing fancy.

  Do you need the video in Sound Forge? If not, select both audio and video events and click U to unlock the two. You should be able to move one without the other. Then click the audio and open in audio editor. I think your sending the video as well and Sound forge is set to export video as uncompressed.

  i’ll try exporting just the audio. i cant find where Sound forge is set to export video as uncompressed. i have been all over it, some sneaky check box hiding in a sub menu.

  Nice one Danny.
  i un-grouped the audio and exported it, edited and returned to the audio time line and all is good. still havnt found the video setting in Forge but thats no longer a problem.

  By the way, Sound Forge is going to recompress the video even if you set it’s render output to the same as your footage since the audio has changed. Every re-compression, the quality takes a hit, so it’s better to just send the audio. If you ever do need the video in SF as a reference, you can hold ctnl and drag the audio and video event tonew tracks as a copy in Vegas before you send it to SF, then when it comes back uncompressed, you can just delete the video only. Alot of hard drive space is used this way though. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

  Thanks Danny, I’ll try that too. I have allot of drive space, so no problem there, and I deleted all unnecessary files once I render and print to tape for the tv show. This all started when I installed a new computer, the install, all programs and change over was seamless, except for that one niggling little problem. Change over computer, install several audio/video programs, install optical links/sound cards/video boards/ it all installed surprisingly well!

  This morning when I booted up the system I have found my main monitor has failed. AGH!!!

  ya gotta laugh sometimes.
