  Import DVDs

  Hi

  What is the best way to import DVD-Video (commercial movie) into Vegas.

  I want to add commentary and addition sound sweetening to a DVD-video movie.

  I tried importing VOB files into Sony Vegas from a standard DVD disc by creating a new project file in Vegas Pro 10(default NTSC settings) and then using File -> Import -> Media -> Open (.VOB). When I do this, sound is out of sync and the wrong audio stream plays. Only one audio stream is imported and contains only the music soundtrack and no dialog. I want the complete audio track(s) with soundtrack and dialog to be imported.

  Should I convert the DVD to an intermediate format (.avi .mpeg). If I do convert the DVD to an intermediate format, wouldn’t that cause
  quality hit even if use uncompressed options.

  Vegas will not allow you to import commercial DVDs.
  The problems you’re experiencing are because of this restriction.

  Thanks for responding.

  I just wanted to use some commercial DVD’s as an exercise in scoring and mixing, but I will try to get some other media to work with other commercial DVDs.

  The correct menu selection is: File | Import | DVD Camcorder Disc. This assumes the DVD is not copy protected but this is the correct way to import DVD’s.

  I have to use another program to import DVD’s every time I try it splits the video into sections (I assume chapters) and there is a slight audio glitch in between each. These are not commercial DVD’s and one that in some cases were burned in DVDA….any thoughts?

  DVD Shrink can take care of the audio gap issues when importing files from a DVD.
  Take a look at the Import VOB Files to Timeline thread as I cover how to do this in detail.
