Posted by Craig Allan on January 23, 2011 at 1:47 pmI have recentley edited a 20 min Motorcycle video, i wanted to speed up the video, so the action looks faster, i dragged the arrow to 4x speed and hit render
When i play back the rendered video it is still normal speed, i was also looking to add mucsic, but want that as normal speedJohn Rofrano replied 15 years, 6 months ago 2 Members · 7 Replies -

I’m not sure what “arrow” you dragged but you want to hold down the Ctrl key and left-click drag the right edge of the event to the left to speed it up. Alternately you can open the event properties and set the playback rate to 4.0.

Select the video and audio event and press ‘U‘ to ungroup them. This will allow you to set the audio speed back to normal without affecting the video.

January 30, 2011 at 12:31 amHi thanks again for the quick response
I couldnt find the video and audio event, only empty event so I highlighted the video and audio tracks and pressed U to ungroup is that what you ment, this made the whole lot play at any speed and not seperate
I then deleted the audio track, set the video speed to 3x and then rendered as an avi file to see if finished up as a speeded up video, once i had done this and open it to play it back it was still at normall speed, and a renerd it at 3x
All i need is the finished product to have the video at 3x and the seperate music track at normall speed, there must be an easy solution which im cant find -

It seems like we are not communicating here. The term “event” is used in Vegas to mean the video clip that you drop on the timeline. When you drop a video file on the timeline it makes an event. You can click on this event and move it around and both the audio and video will move together. If you click on this event and press U it will ungroup them and you can move them around separately. Do you understand now what I mean when I say select the “event” and ungroup it?
Also if you are adding separate audio it should be totally unaffected by speeding up the video track so I’m not sure what you are trying to do now or what you have already done. Perhaps if you could post a screen shot of your Vegas session and explain what you have done it would help.

January 30, 2011 at 4:19 pmHi Again
I have finally rendered my video, to help realise what iam trying to do is, it is a motorcycle video i have edited, i am keeping the audio which was filmed with the video together, this ahdio iam going to have the volume turned right down, because this is the track that i want to play at 3x speed
I now want to add a audio track from my library to be the backing music of the video
as i have edited and rendered the video, it is now on one track, along with the muted audio
i have added another audio track where i have put some music
i now want to increase the video and muted audio tracks to 3x, keeping the background music at 1x
i now only hace 3 tracks in the time line, my video is 20 mins long, and i want to speed it ip, so it looks like the bike is going faster and to cut down on the video length -

January 30, 2011 at 5:50 pmWhen you say you rendered the video, is it all working now?
If not, what I would do is start a new project. Drop the video of the motorcycle onto the timeline. Hold the Ctrl key while clicking the right edge of the video event and drag it to the left to speed it up. Mute the audio track. Drop the music onto a new track. The music should play at regular speed while the video plays faster.
