  transparent background/blend modes

  How do u make blend modes still work when you want the background to be transparent.
  I am making a masking layer animation to import into max/msp that needs to have a transparent background. However i have several blend modes on my animated images which seems to not work as soon as iv taken the background out. I put the background colour as 000 and changed the format to animation millions of colours+ and took away the original background i wanted to be invisible thinking an alpha channel background would replace it. This has worked apart from the blend modes havent worked so you can see all the white paper cut out i hid with the darken blend mode

  please help

  There is a way to use your other layers to matte out the stuff you don’t want to see… you have to duplicate all the mask layer stuff, precomp it if it is more than one layer and use this as a garbage matte for the paper layer. You alpha matte it with the the paper, now it will only blend in the areas that the garbage matte is cutting out… Basically your are using your whole animation to matte out your texture, and then compositng the texture back on it. I hope this makes sense, I don’t know how your setup is exactly. I am not sure if this is the best way but i’ve used it before. You might get a slight edge on your result but you can adjust the garbage matte to fix it.
