    Hi all,
have been using Vegas since v5 and been proud of it since then (2004). Version 10 is now making me rethink. have never seen so many crashes…but the autosave/restore on crash has taken care (limped thru) that problem. Now I have a much more serious issue:

I am working with music videos which typically have 3-5 source video files, switching back and forth every few seconds with special effects and corrections often applied never been problem before).

I open a Vegas 9 file in 10….save it..then v10 will crash every time i try to re-open it and v9 says it was created by a later version. So my 2/3 weeks work is unavailable even to edit.render any more. I have half saved the situation by re-installing v9.0e and opening up backups that existed before i installed v10 and moving these to a safe place…but my latest (and greatest?) 2 videos are unavailable.

I use Magic Bullet Looks Plugin which HAS caused problems between 32 but/64 bot versions but I now only use 32bit. I am going to try un-installing Looks and v10.0b and reinstall 10.a as i am desperate to gain access to these files. If this solution works i will repost the result.

I would never use a product again for serious work if it fails to even open a project made by a previous version or even its OWN version. I need to know WHY it crashes on opening.

I can actually open restore.veg files from earlier edits but lose days of work this way…unacceptable….

    All help much appreciated…

the videos i have “lost” at moment are the veg files to “In Your Arms” and “Cuz We R Family” displayed at following youtube link….these downgraded youtube renders are all i have now from a full raster 1080p project (PMW-EX1) , and a 720p project(HVR-A1U)

Look for the .bak file with the same name as the .veg that opened with Vegas 9. Right click on it and open with Vegas 9. These are backup files just for this type of problem. I always save my projects with a new name before opening and saveing in a new version of Vegas. That way I still have the old .veg if I need to open it in 9 for some reason. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

I will comment further.. I come from a background of software development and IT support. Crashes are 99% unforgivable in a product. Error messages are acceptable though.
I have plowed a couple of thousand in vegas over the years and love the interface and workflow..but crash when loading a project I loaded the day before no problem and no workaround? Bye bye Vegas

    Dear all,
I got round the problem….removed Magic Bullet Looks VEGAS PLUGIN from my system. Opened up the problem projects in Vegas which did NOT crash just reported a missing plug-in. used Save-As to copy projects and all files to backup folder (did NOT save original file).
Re-installed MB Looks. Opened up original file and Looks settings were now restored….opened up backup file and Looks settings were gone.
CLOSED backup file and Vegas crashes on exit (I can live with THAT!).

OF course before I am told to quit using MBL, I did pay several hundred dollars for the industry renowned plug-in…not partly due to the fact a lite/trial version was included with an earlier version of Vegas I purchased….

    Fix your computer.
There’s too many people using V10 and MB plug-ins without problems for your problems to be the fault of the software.

Find and download the freeware program: Prime95. This will tell you if your PC is leting you down.

    Hmm,
the backed up files (using MBL) still wont load unless I load them up after removing MBL…then load up fine afer re-installing mbl and render that way ..then disable MBL before saving…my system works fine for every other app/game…they fly by…
…i just have to remember to deselect the MBL plugins before i save and im good to go…
    ..to be continued
