Sony Vegas Pro 10 low memory error…
Posted by Gabriel Dauga on December 26, 2010 at 6:15 pmHello everyone,
I have been having this problem on my new PC; both with Sony Vegas Pro 10 & 9 64-Bit!
I have never had this problem with ALL my other computers that have 4GB of Ram but are 32-Bit systems! The message appears when I try to open the program (not when rendering)…I have heard that when your PC is 64-Bit Sony Vegas doesn’t detect your Ram if it’s over 2GB. Thus, the message saying that you don’t have enough memory/Ram…
Thank you very much and I bet you can help me!

December 26, 2010 at 8:35 pmThe 64-bit versions of Vegas will see all of the RAM in your computer. Are you using very large images in your project? Images can take up a lot of memory if they’re not cut down to a reasonable size.

December 28, 2010 at 7:58 pmTry starting Vegas by holding down Ctrl+Shift when you double-click on it and say Yes when it asks if it should reset the program to factory defaults.

December 30, 2010 at 2:40 pmDo you have any Codec-Paks installed? (like K-Lite) These can really mess up Vegas and cause it to crash like this.

December 31, 2010 at 9:36 amI use VLC Media Player so I don’t need any Codec Packs… I’m thinking that I’ll never get this problem solved…

December 31, 2010 at 3:58 pmSome software on your new PC is causing Vegas to fail. You might want to contact Sony support to see if they can pin it down.

December 31, 2010 at 8:28 pmCan I see in the task manager what programs or applications can be interfering with Sony Vegas when I’m opening it? So then I can shut it down or uninstall it?

December 31, 2010 at 10:09 pmIt would be difficult to tell what program may be interfering. When you open the Windows Task Manager and go to the Performance tab, what does it say about your Physical Memory?
Here is what my PC says:
In particular, how much available and free memory do you have?

December 31, 2010 at 11:08 pmHi John,
I have the same problem. Just upgraded to Sony Vegas HD Production 10. I use an 8-core (7i Intel) Dell XPS, 12GB memory, 1 TB disk and run Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I get the low memory message when I render an project that has raster images and many .mts files to 1080-1920 (pal for my good folks in Europe), mpeg-2. I open the task mgr, and it shows that I have 9GB mem left.
All the best, Roland
