Best System for Vegas 9
I’m asking this as I’m currently using Vegas 9 on a quad core system with 4 G of memory and I was getting the ‘out of memory’ message when I was trying to render 2 GB MTS files to AVI. I’m rendering to uncompressed AVI so that I can use deshaker, in virtualdub, to get rid of some crazy shaking. But Boxing Week is coming up and I’m looking at buying a new PC with 8GB of memory and there’s a list of NVidia video cards that I’m going to choose from that work well with vrevea-the other program that I’m going to use to get rid of the shakes. I guess what I’m wanting to know is if 8 GB will be enough to do 2 GB of MTS video, how powerful of a processor I will need, etc. I’m also looking at the NVidia GeForce GTX285, or even the GTX480. Any adive is appreciated-thanks in advance.

Are you using a 64-bit OS? Because if you are not, it doesn’t matter that you physically have 4GB of memory, Vegas will only get 2GB.

Build the Videoguys’ DIY7 or DIY8 and you won’t be disappointed. They build and test these systems so you know that they will work once you put them together. The DIY8 offers a budget and hotrod configuration.

Thanks for the reply. The system I had been using in trying to render is 64 bit but I think the rendering caused my motherboard to fry out a couple of weeks ago-which I replaced but in the process, also lost my good video card and was replaced with a so-so card at best. And so I’ll be going 64 again when I get a new one. And I’ll check those links out for sure-thank you.

I think I am repeating myself.
Low Memory or Out of Memory does not mean “Not enough RAM”, though adding RAM can sometimes fix a “Low Memory” waning. A “Low Memory” warning usually means that you have exceeded your commit limit. You need either a bigger page file, more physical memory, or both.
The most important thing to realize is that physical memory and the page file added together equal the commit limit, which is the total amount of virtual memory that all processes can reserve and commit.
Paging file configuration is in the System properties, which you can get to by typing “sysdm.cpl” into the Run dialog, clicking on the Advanced tab, clicking on the Performance Options button, clicking on the Advanced tab (this is really advanced), and then clicking on the Change button. I would suggest a value of 1.5X the currently allocated value. Windows supports up to 16 paging files, where each must be on a separate volume, so if you have more than one internal disk drive you could also try enabling a Paging File on your second hard-disk.
