    Hello all,
I am in the pre-production phase of a spec ad I am working on, and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how to accomplish this effect.

I am wanting to show a couple in a solid white room, then fly in furniture into the room, eventually creating a full room setting (Sofa, loveseat, coffee table, etc.) The setting would end with the couple sitting down on the sofa. Throughout the process the room would transform from a solid white room to a full “home-like” room setting.

It’s hard to describe, but hopefully someone has seen this effect before, and has some sort of insight as to how to do it. I have full green-screen capabilities, I just need to know if there are any tips from someone that has done something similar to this before.

    Thanks!
    ~Bryce

Will the camera be doing any kind of movement? You could do a nice dolly movement in to make it much more impressive, but it would require MUCH more pre-production planning and post-production work (possibly using mocha).

If the camera is still, it makes it much easier. You could shoot the couple and the couch on the greenscreen, with the couch slightly offset from the couple so they are not standing in front of it, then you could mask out the couch and have it slide in, then have them walk in front of it and sit down.

You might also want to shoot each piece of furniture by itself with nothing obscuring it against the green screen to maintain consistent lighting. Also, if there are any harsh shadows you will have issues when it slides in (the shadows won’t move as the position of the furniture does), so try and keep everything pretty diffused with very soft shadows.

I would start by working backwards in post-production. Assemble the entire scene, go to the end of the composition, then start removing items and work yourself back to the beginning of the composition.

I haven’t done exactly what you are trying to do, but I have done a number of green screen shoots and this is how I would approach it.

Thanks for the help. This is pretty much how I was going to approach it. The tip about the shadows is a good one, I didn’t even think of that! I will get this setup hopefully this afternoon, and I will definitely post the final result… If it’s worth anything!

    Thanks again,
