So I got Sony Vegas Pro 10. However, when ever I try to open it and it’s going through the process of creating the necessary files, as soon as it gets to “DirectX plug-ins” a window pops up saying “Vegas Pro has stopped working” and gives me that message about how Windows is checking for a solution and blah blah… Anyways, what could be going wrong with it? I mean, I’ve restarted the computer, uninstalled vegas 10, reinstalled, and all that jazz but it doesn’t work.

It could be a bad DirectX plug-in. If you contact Sony Support they will tell you which log files to look in to find out which plug-in is causing the problem.

I’ve called them 4 times; they never have a solution that works. I’ve clean installed it, gone through numerous “tutorials” via Sony help desk’s request…

    Not sure what to do…

    Try looking in:

    %AppData%\Sony\Vegas Pro\10.0\

for files that start with “dx_” and end with “.log”. These are the DirectX logs. Maybe something in there will give you a clue as to what’s going on.

Fix for Sony Vegas 10 D not starting in windows 7… Do everything in the order I tell you, and it will work. It did for me! Yippy!

1 Disconnect any external USB or Firewire devices like hard-drives or dongles.

2 Turn off all anti-virus programs, as well as disabling any Registry Blockers, Spy Ware, Firewalls, etc.

3 Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features (in Windows 7, open Add or Remove Programs) – remove Vegas Pro 10

4 Remove the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR), any and all Microsoft .NET Framework versions, and the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable software if it is listed. I removed all of my Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable software 5 of them so some of my other programs did not work after… I reinstalled those programs and they are ok now too.

5 Once un-installed, delete the following folders:

A •C:Program FilesSony Vegas Pro 10 < this file… I did not have to delete the Shared Plug-Ins folder and you shouldn’t either

6 Next, Select Start and type REGEDIT in the ‘Start Search’ box.

7 In the Registry Editor, locate and delete the following registry entries…

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSony Creative Software Vegas Pro <<<<< just delete this file.... not the whole Sony Creative Software file! 8 Then go back and go into this file... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARESony Creative Software Vegas Pro <<<<< just delete this file.... not the whole Sony Creative Software file! Close the Registry Editor. Reboot your computer! 9 Now install your Sony Vegas software and reboot, and enjoy.

My purchased Vegas Pro 10 stopped loading up. I tried many things, but the only one that worked for me was following James’ instructions. Thanks!
