I have been editing a wedding all last night. When I went to open my project today, about midway through an 11 minute segment, all the clips I had carefully chosen, edited and colour corrected have now been replaced with random clips from the same media. I have lost all my carefully chosen clips. Some of the clips repeat 2 or 3 times on the timeline. I am seeing thumbnail images on the timeline that do not match the preview. They relate to the clip overall, but are not in the right place. What the ?

Volume editing (ducks) appears unaffected, including the mp3 tracks I added, but there is now new clips + their audio in its place. I hope this is not going to happen to my other edits.

SVP 10 has not been crashing or misbehaving on me, so I am puzzled by this. I am not using multi-cam editing.

Any ideas what is going on?

Sorry to hear that, But unfortunately Vegas 10 has a few kinks to iron
out…and maybe what you are experiencing is one of them…The good thing with vegas is that updates addressing kinks and bugs are always
    around the corner.

Nope. The project was started in SVP 10. I only got as far as 9.0c before moving straight to 10. This is my first such issue. I have about 100 hours of other unfinished edits on SVP10 which so far appear to be unaffected, but I have to go through them carefully looking for segments that are out of place. If they go the same way, I am in deep trouble as they are Vasst mutli-cam quadcam edits.

Steve I hope you are right on both counts. I took a gamble going to 10 instead of staying on 9.0c, but I wanted to take advantage of the stabilise plug-in plus CUDA rendering. There are definite improvements and the product has not crashed on me once, whereas 9.0c would hiccup now and again.

I think they essentially shipped with 10.0a.. that’s the first one I downloaded, and I bought on or about release day.

If you’re not seeing crashes, you’re lucky. For me anyway, 10.0a has been the buggiest release since 8.1… crashes all the time. I’m sure it depends on what you’re doing. It hasn’t prevented me from getting work done, but unfortunately, the things I could be doing in Vegas 9 aren’t so much of a problem — the things I need in Vegas 10, or are complex to move to Vegas 9 (Sony really needs to re-think their no-backwards-compatibility policy… I should at least be able to export from 10 to 9), are stuck in Vegas 10.

Last night, it crashed three times, each when I was simply adding a mask to a layer. I have used masks elsewhere, so I know its not a general problem, but maybe specific to that project. Who knows?

At least in the past, Vegas (and the other Sony tools) do get improvements, sometimes even new features, after release. Sony/Sonic Foundry have been very consistent with this over the years… most Versions of Vegas have been among the most stable tools of any kind I use on my system … even compared to $10,000 electronics CAD software. So there’s hope. Most folks do realize that “rev x.0”, or in Sony case, the rev that ships on release day, is something of a gamble. Even when you, like in my case, that doesn’t necessarily stop the “new toy” aspect from overriding common sense.
