So I’ve been attempting to get adequate performance in my Vegas for a long time now. I want to edit with AVIs (codec: xdiv). Even with the Draft auto setting it’s not working well. I’ve always suspected that my computer needs more RAM or memory, but I don’t know how to do that. My dad says he thinks it’s a graphic card. I have a friend who’s computer handles the footage the way I want, she has a 64 bit operating system on her labtop as well as a Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10 GHz, and 4.0 GB of Ram.

My desktop is a AMD Athlon(tm) 7550 Dual-Core Processor 2.50 GHz and 3.00 GB of Ram with a 32 bit operating system.

I read on another forum the graphics card has nothing to with Vegas. If I need Ram, how do I go about that?

    Thank you

First step get away from xvid as Vegas does not support it or dixv. It may work ok for a while then go totally haywire for no reason. Since Sony has no support for the format then you are up the proverbial creek.

Convert the files you have to a more Vegas friendly format and most of your problems will go away.

Now that I think of it I’m not certain if all my files are in that format, but what I know is that the AVI files that do work well in the program are the same ‘size’ as the file type I want to use, while something like the cinepack codec is the same ‘size’ as mpegs (I don’t know how to better describe this, I’m referring to what appears the aspect ratio). All I know is that I want to use the same files my friend uses without problems, the files I download from ripped DVDs online. Other formats don’t give me the quality I want, are a huge size, or have rendering problems.
