A bit of a techincal hardware question for any who dare…

My company is about to purchase a system that will be used primarily for After Effects, as well as some NLE’ing. The two CPU’s we’re considering are very similar: P4 3.73 GHz Extreme Edition (1066 MHz Front side bus), and a P4 3.8 GHz (800 MHz FSB). Other than that the systems are identical. SO, for an application like After Effects, does FSB speed affect performance in such a way that I should opt for the 3.73EE ?

A very geeky question, I know.

    Thanks!

Ive noticed with all the different PC based systems I’ve used that the Intel based machines tend to struggle a bit. I might be wrong but i would say an AMD based machine is the way to go as far as stabilty and speed etc etc… check it out….

Thanks for your reply… It happens to be that I’m all but locked into an Intel box, mostly because we’re getting an RTX100 from Matrox with it, and the fastest “suggested configuration” includes an Intel mobo.

I’m just trying to get maximum performance from the limited choices I have.

so the thing is that you are getting the machine from Matrox? and the bundle they offer comes with “intel inside”, have you asked them if they can do the card with an AMD? or alternatively try somewhere else maybe?…
