Vegas 4.0 Audio Plugins
Hello!
I’ve been using Sony Vegas 4.0 as an audio multi-track recording “studio” for years. I don’t use it for video editing at all. I Love the interface. I started with an LE version of 2.0 (I think) way back in the day. You can hear some of my music at this link:

However, I wanted to update or use other plugin audio effects other than what comes with Vegas. I would love to try out some things like Glaceverb and the Bluecat effects. However, I don’t know how to make these plugins work with Vegas.
I am running Windows 7 on a computer that has two hard drives. I installed Vegas on my D drive so I could keep all of my music work separate from everything else.
Does anyone know how to get audio plugins available for Vegas to use? I’d love to be able to assign new effects to each track like I use the onboard effects.
Any and all info would be greatly appreciated!

Vegas supports direct-x plugins so install as direct x and choose the location, program files, Sony, shared plugins, audio, and they should showup in your audio effects the next time you launch Vegas. Vegas also supports VST plugins. Click options, preferences, VST effects, and choose a folder where you will install them.

I’ve tried everything you’ve suggested and it doesn’t seem to work…
The VST option you mentioned: I go to preferences, click options, but there’s no VST effects listed in the options…
Is Vegas 4.0 just too old to support?
Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated…

Sony Vegas 4.0 doesn’t support VST audio plug-ins which is what Bluecat and other audio companies support. You need to upgrade to a version that does. They added VST support in Vegas 6 but the latest version is Vegas Pro 10.

Yep, as I was going through the help index I ran across that little tidbit…
I loaded some free DirectX plugins and they worked just fine…

I love the interface of Vegas. I believe I tried a demo of 9.0 and it seemed to be very similar.

Actually… I cheated… I am running a version of Vegas 4e. I have this for software testing of VASST plug-ins from when we supported Vegas 4. So I just opened it up and looked, then I opened Vegas 5 and looked, then I opened Vegas 6 and there was the VST settings.
