  • Best Deinterlace Method for 60i – Blend Fields or Interpolate Fields?

I shot some footage with my Panasonic HDC-TM15 who shots AVCHD 1920×1080 60i at 30 FPS. Wondering if changing the Deinterlace Method from Blend Fiels to Interpolate or to None will bring any effect as I see some distorsion in the video rendering with Blend Fields.

If Blend Fields is not giving you a good result them use Interpolate Fields. Never use None unless you have progressive footage. Otherwise you will see horrible interlace artifacts because your footage is interlaced to begin with so you must select a deinterlace method other than None.

Thank you for your response, very helpful! Currently I’m making a music video and I’m wondering if I really have to convert 30fps to 24fps to get a more cinematic look or not, any ideas on this? – I’m getting offtopic, apologise for this.

The cinematic look is a lot more than just the 24fps cadence but it does add to the “look”. If you do a lot of quick pans, you may not like the look as it may be too choppy. Usually if you know want to deliver 24p you plan your camera moves to make sure they look good in 24p. Try rendering to 24p and see if you like it.

I have noticed blend fields works well for static shots and interpolate fields seems to work better for shots with more movement.
