Cannot Demux Cineform AVI via TMPGEnc a VC1 Source
Vegas 9e Pro will not accept a VC1 HD 5.1 source file. Using TMPGEnc to convert to Cineform AVI PCM audio. The AVI will not demux in Vegas (audio video), get video only. Any ideas?
BTW, if my source material is AVC 5.1 for example I can convert to Cineform from the Vegas timeline and then Vegas will demux that AVI PCM file. TMPEnc seems to create an AVI Vegas cannot manipulate.

I just got a Panasonic HDC-TM700 that shoots 1920 x 1080 60P with 5.1 audio, makes a AVCHD .mts file. Vegas accepts these and show all 5.1 audio channels. Also it will render .mp4 and .wmv at the same framerate and rez. If in fact your source footage is AVCHD, and Vegas will edit it, why use Cineform?

Are you creating a Type 1 or Type 2 AVI file from TMPEnc? I believe Vegas only supports Type 1 (interleaved) AVI files.

My source file is VC1 and Vegas does not accept VC1 that I’m aware of. I’m at work right now so I can’t check to see what file type is being created by TMPEnc.
I did create a 2 channel audio Cineform AVI with TMPGenc and Vegas will demux the stereo audio so there’s something about the 5.1 or 6 channel that TMPGEnc creates that causes Vegas to choke. I tried experimenting with the TMPGEnc audio output structure using various combinations of number of audio output (3,4,5) with no success.

It may be that Vegas is not expecting 5.1 audio in an AVI file. That is why stereo works but more channels do not.

I don’t know. I’ve never come across a VC1 file. Where did it come from? I thought VC1 was a delivery format.

VC1 and AVC are the CODECS used in commercial Blu-rays. Vegas natively handles AVC but to my knowledge not VC1. Definition below:
VC-1 is the informal name of the SMPTE 421M video codec standard, which was initially developed as a proprietary video format by Microsoft before it was released as a formal SMPTE standard video format on April 3, 2006. It is today a widely supported standard found in HD DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, Windows Media Video 9, and Microsoft’s Silverlight framework.

I already knew that. I didn’t ask what it was… I asked where did you get it from? I guess you answered my question anyway since it looks like you may be trying to edit content from a Blu-ray disc. Vegas does not support this.
