  • Petition Adobe to Bring Embed Project link and copy back in AE CS4

There was a great feature in AE CS3 that allowed users to embed a copy of their after effects project into a quicktime render. Not only would it link to the current version of the project, but actually include a copy of the current state. I can’t tell you how many times this feature helped me. A project gets modified, or deleted, and you don’t remember what auto save or version to go back to. Just go to the quicktime that was correct and import it into AE as a project and you have exactly what you need.

In CS4 they removed this feature, probably because most users don’t know about it. I would love it if everyone could put in a feature request to let adobe know there is still an interest for it.

Click here to request it to adobe.

I’ve not yet updated my 3 After Effects machines from CS3 and have only temporarily used CS4 on other people’s machines so I didn’t yet realize this feature is gone … if it really is, I will never update beyond CS3 until there is an AE version with this feature returned. An autosave function simply does not replace embedding and I’m not sure I can think of any other AE feature I would feel as strongly about … maybe its ability to render video.

In fact, features that are being removed from AE should share equal time/space everywhere that users are inundated with announcements of new features … anything else feels like a bait and switch.

I’m going to post my same comments on the Adobe AE forum, as well as send directly to Adobe as a “feature request” and I too encourage every AE user who relies heavily on this feature to do the same.

Please, do submit your requests through the feature-request form. That’s the best way for us to know what people want and what people think. We are certainly listening.

(This conversation is also going on on another forum. I’ll leave it to the other posters who’ve cross-posted to decide what part of that conversation to bring back here.)

Todd, You made some very good points that I probably hadn’t considered adequately so thanks much for your always helpful replies.

I really hope it’s feasible to return the Embed Project Copy feature since just not knowing about it is the only reason I’ve ever heard over the years for any AE user to not use it religiously.

By the way, it’s commendable of you to avoid potential appearances of a shameless plug for your employer. I don’t work for Adobe so I can be shameless and mention for the possible benefit of others that you provided some helpful information on this subject in a similar string on the Adobe AE forum:

If it’s considered inappropriate for anyone to mention another forum here, I sincerely apologize.
