Best settings to capture DV video using Vegas 7
I got my high end JVC super VHS,(JVC HR 9600) my canopus ADVC 110 working. I plan to play the S vhs into Sony Vegas (version 7 pro) using XP and capture DV video.
First, should I play the tapes in the edit mode, I read I should with that deck, don’t even know where the edit mode button is and I don’t have the remote. (another posting maybe for this question)
TBC or image stabilizer. (my friend says that it’s really not a real TBC in those machines. But it helps.so are there any specific settings for getting good DV video (AVI files I presume) that would be good for editing, authoring DVD’s and posting videos online. I know I would convert it for that.
Should I use the default settings, or is there any particular aspect ratio, sound issues. I think most tapes are mono and some are hi fi. The audio sounds pretty good. Mostly talking, Many camera masters and some edited tapes on pro equipment.
anything else I might need to know. I would hate to spend hours, not to mention some of the tapes might be on the way out, sooner or later. Most 12 to 18 years old. Should be OK.
IS there a volume level meter for the audio going in and a way to adjust the levels of audio for a good sound mix.
While I’m posting this, what is the best format for you tube. I want it to look good, but I don’t need HD. And what about DVD’s.
Is Mpeg 2 good for that.Thanks a lot for your help. I plan to start tomorrow. This is some really funny comedy stuff and I want it to go well. If anyone is interested I can send a link to them on you tube.

There are no settings, just capture the digital data and edit away.
The TBC in the ADVC-110 is pretty good. I don’t know what your friend means by a “true” TBC except that high-priced TBC’s are adjustable. The ‘110 is a compromise that improves practically any VHS feed you give it.
